Splits are handled at the software level. In Reason you can easily make a combinator that combines whatever internal synths you want and then you can choose where they split or how they layer. So you could have a bass patch and have it only go up to say C3 and then starting at C#3 and going up you could have a lead patch or whatever you want. Using splits is a great way to quickly switch patches as long as none of the patches needs the whole range.

Can you share a little more about how to assign Splits? Using the octave keys on the EWI4000s to switch patches sounds like a great idea!
Thanks!

Yeah I’ve heard of people having success with that as well.
Thanks,

This post is about my software rig – http://barrycaudill.com/ewi-corner-the-virtual-years/. I have been using Reason as my sound engine but I’m also experimenting with Mainstage.

But noticed at the end of your blog you are all software now. What software? Should I buy the chip or go all software. The physical modeling of the vl70 is very important me. But to be honest the vl70 has a very nasal 90s sound that I don’t like. Thoughts?

Rigotti Gold 3 1/2 Light. I’ve been experimenting trying to zero in on the right strength for me and I think I will end up back on the 3 1/2 Medium (where I started). I tried 3 strong first and then 3 1/2 Light but I think the mediums fit me best for both feel and longevity.
